Boyer Salvador, Miguel
b. 1939, St Jean de Luz (France)
   Economist and politician
   A graduate in physics and economics, Boyer Salvador became Deputy Director-General of the Research Department of the National Industrial Institute, and Director-General in 1974. A member of PSOE since 1960, he joined the Felipe González cabinet as Minister for Economy and Finance (1982–5), providing a politically useful link between government and banking interests. After his marriage to society beauty Isabel Preysler in 1985, he became identified with the "Marbella set", and was seen as embodying the contradiction between socialist principles and the lavish lifestyles of those referred to cynically by the public as los beautiful.
